One person was killed and four others were injured in a house fire in South Los Angeles on Monday night, officials said.
Firefighters arrived shortly before midnight in the Florence-Firestone area along the 8700 block of Compton Avenue.
Henry Norway, a spokesman for the LA County Fire Department, told KTLA that he found a neighbor using a hose to pour water into one of the windows.
Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire within a minute as they searched for residents.
Narwaz said five people were found inside, including a male victim who succumbed to his injuries. The other four were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The fire officer said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire. Investigators are still investigating the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
“The fire department appreciates the immediate response and action of the neighbors who initially heard the call for help, and arrived quickly,” he said.
He added: “I am convinced that his immediate action helped the victims we were able to evacuate – at least given the chance to fight so that we could get there, evacuate them and then paralyze them. Medics can be taken to them. ”
Authorities have not identified the dead man, and no further details are immediately available.
