The vast Silicon Valley is famous for its meetings with technical and good retail outlets, a diverse restaurant scene and Michelin-starred awards, from Chez TJ in Mountain View to Manresa in Los Gatos. But any local gourmet worth his salt (Himalayan rose, of course) knows that these five epicurean experiences are a must.

1 Savor the history and fruits: Before the Silicon Valley was created, there was the Valley of the Heart Pleasure. With 100,000 acres of orchards, the region was prized for its juicy plums, apricots, cherries and other fruits. (Oh, what we would have given to see Blossom Hill Road in those days when it was famous for its blooming flowers, not for bumper-to-bumper traffic.) a region with over 40 canning factories and packers.

Most of the fruit production has moved to the Central Valley, but you can still get to know and taste the famous crops. The town of Sunnyvale has preserved 10 acres of Blenheim apricot trees and opened a museum in the Orchard Heritage Park. Saratoga grows cherries, plums and apricots at its Heritage Orchard. A handful of family orchards also remain, particularly in the south of Santa Clara County. Next spring and summer, visit Andy’s Orchard on Morgan Hill and don’t miss the fruit stands along the Monterey Highway.

2 Sprinkle with orange sauce: Philadelphia is the king of cheesecakes. San Francisco is synonymous with leaven. St. Louis put roasted ravioli on the food map. And San Jose has orange sauce, the beloved taqueria spice that is becoming more and more famous day by day. Marcelino Barrita, founder of the local La Victoria chain, invented the spicy sauce almost 25 years ago in his first store to add a little more flavor to his burritos and tacos and hopefully boost sales. It worked, and now there are copycat versions in taquerias all over the gulf area. Pour out the original at six La Vic locations (five in San Jose, one in Hayward).

3 bite into banh mi: Santa Clara County is home to over 150,000 people of Vietnamese origin, so we can enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine here. But just as foodies have a favorite burrito, you need to start with their favorite banh mi (pronounced bun-mee), a delicious and inexpensive sandwich. 4 Store in Italy: OK, do it Eataly, Santa Clara’s three-story food emporium representing every region of Italy. Takeout restaurants are located on the first floor; we recommend a square of Roman style pizza, followed by pistachio ice cream.
