According to police, the wedding guests at the nearby Saybrook Point Inn were unable to save him.

OLD SAYBROOK, Connecticut (AP) – A 76-year-old Connecticut man died Saturday after his SUV fell into the water at Saybrook Point Marina and Resort in Old Saybrook, police said.

Wedding guests at the nearby Saybrook Point Inn jumped in, hauled the man ashore and performed CPR, but were unable to save him, police said.

The man, identified as Steven Mark Wahle of Old Saybrook, was pronounced dead at Middles*x Medical Center Shoreline in Westbrook.

The incident occurred around 10:15 pm. The marina is located between Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River.

The fire department’s diving team determined that Wahle was the only person in the SUV. The police pulled the vehicle out of the water and confiscated it awaiting an ongoing investigation.
