Angelina Jolie praises Zahra for sending her to a historically black college

Angelina Jolie has shared her pride over the news that her eldest daughter Zahara is attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Footage of Jolie celebrating at the Spellhouse event is circulating online as she prepares to join the “Electric Slide” dance. The actress also posted congratulations on her daughter and her new classmates on social media.

Jolie and Brad Pitt’s adopted daughter, Zahara Marley, is the second child in the Jolie-Pitt college-going family.

On Sunday, Jolie shared a photo of a group of women, including Zahara, standing in front of a balloon, suggesting they would be the class of ’26.

“Zahra with her Spellman sisters!” Jolie wrote, “Congratulations to all the new students who started this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as the new Spellman Girl.”

Spelman College is known as a historically black, women’s liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. Notable alumni of Spelman College include politician Stacey Abrams, Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Walker, and TV personality Rolanda Watts.

As well as sharing her feelings as a proud parent on Instagram, Jolie joined the celebrations while dancing to the “Electric Boogie” remix for freshmen. American music executive and Spelman College alumnus, Phylicia Fant, shared footage of the Oscar-winning actress attending the ceremony. Twitter fan account @bestofajolie compiled an archive of all the footage of Jolie dancing.

Many of Jolie’s fans sent her congratulatory messages in the comments section on Instagram. Twitter users also highlighted how Zahra and Jolie chose a prestigious and “historically black” university.

“I love how she’s getting on and doing all the typical college parenting activities. And yay Z moving to an HBCU! [historically Black college and university],” wrote @jolie_purr. Meanwhile @bestorossa added, “I love that Angelina Jolie helped her daughter Zahra find a sense of community among other blac girls and I hope her experiences intensify!”

Zahra is Jolie’s third eldest child (out of six) and the second who is known to have gone to college. Maddox Chiwon Jolie-Pitt was adopted from Cambodia in 2002 and in 2019 at the age of 18, he began college at Yonsei University in South Korea, studying biochemistry.

Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt was adopted from Vietnam in 2007 when he was three years old. He graduated from high school in 2021 but it is unknown whether he attended college.

After Zahra, they have three other children, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, born in Namibia in 2006, and twins Knox Lyon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, born in Nice, France in 2008.

16-year-old Shiloh recently became a TikTok sensation when videos of her dancing were shared on a dedicated fan account.

Meanwhile, legal drama continues between the children’s adoptive parents, Jolie and Pitt, as they settle their divorce. The former couple had a controlling stake in the French vineyard and house Chateau Miraval, but in October 2021 Jolie sold his stake in the winery. Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie in June 2022, suggesting that he intentionally “tried to harm her” by selling his interests.
