Birmingham City are currently monitoring Netherlands youth international Bjorn Meijer with a view to signing the player in the future.
This is according to a report by Dutch outlet Votable International (Via sports witness ), who says the Blues have been “very impressed” by the 18-year-old’s performance recently appearing for the U19 national team in the European Championship qualifiers.
Meijer has been described as a “left-wing defender”, having made only four senior appearances in the Eredivisie for his club, FC Groningen, after coming through there academy.
Birmingham No attitude is made for the teenager, though apparently, but Jan will show whether they want to confirm their interest.
Meijer’s current contract with Groningen expires in 2023 with an option to extend it until 2024, so the Dutch outfit will be under no pressure to sell the youngster this January unless he is presented with an agreed fee.
Speaking about transfer plans this week, Birmingham boss Lee Boyer said: “Finance comes into play, whether you like it or not, so it’s going to be tough. We can only try and target our desired goals.” And hopefully we can do that.”
