Mayor of bolt on Leading by example by confirming a negative COVID test before formally opening the meeting of the Plenary Council.
In line with the latest guidance, Clerk Linda Thomas took a rapid lateral flow test before the meeting and reminded others to do the same if they were spending time in crowded and enclosed spaces.
With COVID restrictions lifted, more people are attending work places, going to stores, enjoying large events, or meeting with groups of friends.
Last week Bolton Council launched the Covid Still Here campaign, highlighting simple steps we can all take to protect each other while enjoying each other’s daily activities.
What is Rapid Lateral Flow Test?
One in three people with COVID-19 have no symptoms, but can still transmit the virus to others, especially in closed spaces or crowded areas.
Everyone is urged to take a rapid test before socializing or socializing with others for work, to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
The tests are quick and easy to use, with results displayed in just 30 minutes.
Anyone testing positive must protect others by isolating themselves and booking a PCR test to confirm the result.
stay safe this winter
Viruses of all kinds spread more easily when the weather is cooler, and as more people get around during the festive period, there is a risk that COVID rates could rise.
As well as putting vulnerable people at risk and putting pressure on the NHS, high rates could cause significant disruption by forcing schools or businesses to close.
We can all contribute to the Still Here campaign for COVID by following the simple steps set out:
• Opening windows and keeping rooms well ventilated when sitting indoors
• We wash our hands regularly and use hand sanitizer when we go out
• Regular rapid testing, especially before mixing with others
• Getting a thorough vaccination, including a booster dose and a flu jab
• Wearing a mask in shared places and busy areas
The mayor of Bolton, Clerk Linda Thomas, said:
“Before the meeting last night I took a rapid COVID test, a simple step we can all take as part of our day-to-day routine.
“If you are visiting colleagues, family or friends a quick test is a quick and easy way to make sure you are not spreading the virus to others.
“By following this advice, we can protect the NHS, the Bolton economy and each other this winter.”
