Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale is expected to stay in Boston for another two seasons, according to baseball boss Chaim Bloom.

“He told us he was going to sign up” Bloom told Boston Globe Red Sox reporter Alex Speier.

Sale could theoretically drop out of the past two years, and with $ 55 million remaining after the World Series ends his five-year contract with the Red Sox.

But with only 11 starts due to injury in the last two seasons, Sale’s decision to stick to his current Boston deal makes sense.

Now 33, Sale has crossed 200 innings in one season only once since coming to Boston: in 2017, his first season with the Red Sox. After coming to the trade with White Sox in December 2016, Sale helped Boston win the 2018 World Series.

Before the start of the next season, Sale signed a five-year extension with Boston in 2019. But since then, injuries have limited his impact. Inflammation of the elbow ended his 2019 season. Tommy John Surgery had in 2020.

After he looked to have recovered in 2022, Sale suffered a broken finger first and then a wrist in a bicycle accident (which ended his season).
