President Biden disregarded the recent efforts of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to score political points, apparently sending a plane filled with asylum seekers to the president’s home state, Delaware.
As local officials on Tuesday struggled to prepare for the arrival of immigrants, Biden refused to take bait from journalists who shouted questions about the Republican party feat following an unrelated White House incident.
– He should come to visit. We have a beautiful coastline, ”said Biden of DeSantis.
The plane that started the day in Texas is the same plane that DeSantis used to ferry immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts over the weekend.
DeSantis refused to say whether the plane was going to Delaware.
Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) Attacked DeSantis for urging immigrants to fly 1,000 miles from where they would have to appear in court to apply for asylum.
“What a cruel feat for a group of people seeking asylum,” he said.
Flight tracking service received the plane was supposed to fly first to a small airport in West Florida, then to Georgetown, Delaware airport approximately 20 miles from Rehoboth Beach.
This is a similar route taken by the plane that dropped 49 mostly Venezuelan asylum seekers at Martha’s Vineyard.
A San Antonio sheriff opened an investigation into these flights, suggesting that asylum seekers were tricked into boarding by Florida officials who created fake brochures falsely promising jobs and benefits.
DeSantis and fellow Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas say they are sending migrants north to Democratic cities and states, including New York and Washington, to dramatize the urgency of the southern border.
Democrats call it a shameless political feat and accuse conservative leaders of using people as pawns.
New York City mayor Eric Adams has argued with Abbott over convoys of Lone Star State buses carrying migrants to the Big Apple, which, according to Hizzoner, has strained city services.
An asylum seeker who was placed on a bus from Texas to New York killed herself on Monday at a city shelter, sparking a new round of accusations.
