PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Darius Slay had no idea James Harden was cheering for the Eagles from the sideline until he saw the Philadelphia 76ers on the big screen. So what did Slay do?

The Philadelphia Eagles corner pulled up to Harden and gave him the first ball of his two interceptions against Minnesota. Harden even got stuck after the game and had Slay’s autograph on the ball – quite a memento of another Eagles victory at Linc.

Slay, however, had a stellar selection of celebrities to choose from.

Bryce Harper (wearing an Eagles hat) was at home. Likewise, Questlove and the famous Eagles fan – both in real life and fiction – actor Bradley Cooper (wearing an Allen Iverson T-shirt).

It turned out that the biggest star of them was behind the center on Monday evening.

Jalen Hurts used a nationwide audience to play the groundbreaking – and often breathtaking – match of his young career.

Hurts entered the season still in doubt as to whether he wasn’t just a quarterback but the franchise’s QB for the Eagles – remember, he was picked in the second round of the 2020 draft simply to serve as a reserve – but wiped them out with authority in winning his first two starts.

Hurts was flawless at opening and made a few mistakes in guiding the Eagles to win 24-7 Vikings on a Monday night.

His first half, when he had a total of 301 yards and three touchdowns, gave an immediate comparison with Michael Vick’s epic performance of six touchdowns in the 2010 Washington DC win on Monday night.

The 24-year-old Hurts ended up passing 333 yards, 57 yards in a run, two hurried touchdowns, one pass and showed that it is of course early, but maybe Harper and Harden won’t be the only MVPs in town. time goes on in the Super Bowl.

Hurts had their fifth multiple TD game since the beginning of last season.

– I wouldn’t say I’m surprised. I’ve seen an increase, said Eagles coach Nick Sirianni. “We talk so much with Jalen about it. Why will it still reach its ceiling? Because he is tough, he has a high football character and loves soccer. It will reach its ceiling. It’s fun to watch it grow.

WHAT WORKS?

It hurts and offends. Yes, the Hurts has the greatest merit as the Eagles are just one of six teams 2-0 in the NFL. But offensive coordinator Shane Steichen called the right moves that make the Eagles seem electrifying at times. Despite all the love shown by the talented trio of Eagle wingers – AJ Brown, Quez Watkins and DeVonta Smith – it was Dallas Goedert who led the team from the distance, scoring 82 points (on five catches). Miles Sanders lunged 80 yards for the second productive week in a row from the back room.

WHAT NEEDS HELP

Hurts has many options, but sometimes the Eagles try to give him too much. In the first quarter, they were marked with three unauthorized penalties for the recipient. The Eagles have had as many as 11 illegal penalties in the two seasons since Sirianni coached the team.

MAKE STOCK

Big kill! When he doesn’t come up with nicknames for his teammates, doesn’t rub his elbows against Harden, or proves to be one of the most cited Eagles, Slay has earned his nickname as a defender who makes all the big moves.

Slay had two interceptions and disabled Justin Jefferson’s prominent Viking wide receiver. Jefferson limited himself to just six receptions on 12 targets out of 48 yards. Slay broke five passes in total.

“I am still at the elite level. I deserve a lot of respect, ”said Slay. “I think the league respects me enough.”

STOCK DOWN

It’s hard to find fault with anything the Eagles have done in the full game against the Vikings.

INJURED

Brown temporarily scared Eagles fans when he went on a short trip to the medical tent. However, no injury. Receiver Eagles No. 1 only needed a bathroom break.

KEY NUMBER

2: The eagles only had two bags of Kirk’s cousins. That number is slightly undermined by the defense, which put pressure on him throughout the match and forced him to a throw of just 98 yards and three steals in the second half.

NEXT STEPS

Hey, don’t I know you? The Eagles kick off their downhill tour on Sunday as they head out to play with Washington Commanders and former QB Carson Wentz. The Eagles return home on Sunday October 2 and play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, led by coach Doug Pederson. Wentz and Pederson, of course, played a key role in helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl after the 2017 season.
