Detective Constable Hugh Charles of Sussex Police said: “Gibbs found out about the girl and over time he attached himself to her and gained her confidence before initially sexually abusing her, only for his own pleasure. .

“Only when he finally felt able to tell family members what had happened was we informed of it, and immediate action was taken, resulting in the arrest of Gibbs and his subsequent prosecution three years later. ”

“I would also like to thank the police and the Survivors Network’s support services for the hard work and support they have given me and my daughter.”

Det Con Charles said: “I would also like to thank my colleagues, Detective Constable Steve Wormley, Lisa Wells and Laura Powell, who helped bring Gibbs to justice.

“It was a team effort on the part of the victim.”
