The Elisal fire, discovered Monday afternoon, has forced evacuations in Santa Barbara County and the closure of Highway 101.
According to the Las Pedres National Forest Fire Managers, the fire started in the hills south of Lake Elysal and spread to the coast in the south.
As of Tuesday morning, its size was estimated at more than 6,000 acres (10 square miles). The estimated frame on the map above is shown in gray.
Mandatory evacuation areas, in Orange, include the Refugee Valley and El Capitan and the Refugee State coast.
Highway 101 is closed between Highway 1 Junction and the west bank of the Goliath in Los Cruz.
