A Las Vegas b*mber that escaped from prison last weekend was captured while trying to catch a bus to Mexico.
Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, 42, has been reported missing in a prison in southern Nevada since last Friday. He was serving a life sentence for killing a man by planting a motion-activated b*mb in the parking lot of a Luxor hotel and cas*no in 2007.
The cops were told that Duarte-Herrera was at a bus station in downtown Las Vegas, north of the Strip, Wednesday night.
Duarte-Herrera was in line to get on the bus before the cops arrived, asked him to get out of the line and stop him, according to video obtained by the local branch of CBS KLAS. Duarte-Herrera showed no resistance in the film.
The bus was headed to Tijuana, police said.
In 2007, Duarte-Herrera and another man, Omar Rueda-Denvers, planted a b*mb in a parking lot in Luxor that was intended for Rueda-Denvers ex-girlfriend Caren Chali and her new boyfriend, Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio. The b*mb killed Dorantes Antonio, who was 27 years old. Chali escaped unscathed.
Duarte-Herrera was detained at the Southern Desert Correctional Center, approximately 50 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The chairman of the prison wardens union said Duarte-Herrera escaped using battery acid to: smash the frame of his cell window, reported the local branch of Foxa KVVU. Then he placed a cardboard mannequin in the cell.
The rangers didn’t realize the Duarte-Herrera was gone until Tuesday morning. This gave him a four-day advantage over the authorities, but still could not cross the border.
Police officers are still investigating if and how Duarte-Herrera helped in his escape.
