One of the bodies found in the home of former Rhode Island mayor Susan Menard belonged to her, the state medical examiner confirmed Wednesday.

Medical officials said they had not identified the second body discovered Monday night.

“The causes of d*ath for these people are still ongoing,” the press release said.

Woonsocket police responded on Monday afternoon at Menard’s home on Marian Lane after a neighbor reported strong smell coming from the residence. Both bodies were found “severely decomposed,” Police Chief Thomas Oates said on Tuesday.

The police do not suspect any criminal activity. oatmeal said NBC News that the officers who reacted to the house found “no outward signs of any foul play or fighting of any kind.” Two bodies were found in different parts of the house.

Menard was the longest-serving mayor of Woonsocket, from 1995 to 2009. She was also the first woman to hold this position.
