MIAMI (AP) – Ian Happ made a daring sacrifice in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs team gathered to beat Miami Marlins 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Patrick Wisdom hit his 23rd homer for the Cubs who only had four hits.

Losing 3-1, the Cubs scored three goals in eighth-place goals against Marlins stakes Steven Okert and Dylan Floro.

Okert (5-5) led Zach McKinstry and Christopher Morel to start the inning. Okert then suppressed Esteban Quiroz’s sacrifice and mistakenly threw it to the first. McKinstry scored from second place in error, while Morel and Quiroz moved up two bases.

Chicago drew after Morel beat the shortstop Miguel Rojas, who defeated David Bote in the ground, and Quiroz moved up to third place. Happ followed him with the ball that left Floro.

Keegan Thompson (10-5) threw three pointless rounds of relief. Activated from the injured roster on Wednesday, Thompson allowed one hit and took out a six.

For the second consecutive night, Okert suffered a loss after failing to hold the lead on the eighth. It was the 37th loss for the Marlins in one run, which corresponded to the club record set in 1993.

Marlins starter Jesús Luzardo hit 11 in 6 rounds 2/3 of the single-speed ball. Left-handed allowed three hits and one went. Wisdom Strike in the seventh episode ended Luzardo’s performance.

Rookie Nick Fortes and Lewin Díaz scored against Cubs starter Marcus Stroman in fifth place. A double run by Fortes cleared a wall on the right side of the field, and Díaz followed him with his solo shot to the right.

Stroman, who had limited Marlins to two singles for the first four rounds, was lifted after six rounds. He allowed three runs and five hits, passed one and smashed seven.

CLASSIC CALL BASEBALL

Israel added Marlins alternates Richard Bleier and Jake Fishman to its Spring 2023 World Baseball Classic list. Bleier, 35, also represented Israel in the qualifying round of the 2013 tournament.

ROSTER MOVEMENT

The Cubs bet on RHP Jeremiah Estrada the Triple-A Iowa option for Thompson’s place in the roster.
