Herschel Walker, a GOP candidate for the US Senate in Georgia, was beaten by his son on social media after publishing a report claiming that he paid for an ex-girlfriend’s ab*rtion.
The Republican candidate and former NFL star who made his objection to the right to ab*rtion a main campaign topic strongly denied the claim on Twitter and promised to file a lawsuit after The Daily Beast published an article on Monday claiming he paid the ex-girlfriend to make ab*rtion in 2009. His son, Christian Walker, soon appeared, accusing his father of “lying” and “violence” in a series of tweets.
“I know my mother and would really be grateful if my father Herschel Walker would stop lying and mocking us” Christian Walker tweeted. “You are not a ‘man of the family’, when you left us to f*ck a group of women, you threatened to kill us, and made us move 6 times in 6 months to escape your violence.”
“I don’t care about someone who has a bad past and takes responsibility,” he uninterrupted. “But how do you DARE to LIE and act as if you were some” moral, Christian, righteous man. ” You lived a life of DESTROYING other people’s lives. How dare you.
So did Christian Walker tweeted that “every member of the Herschel Walker family asked him not to run for office” because of his past, but “decided to give us the middle finger and air out all his dirty laundry in public while lying about it.
“I’m done,” added the son of the Republican candidate.
About an hour later, Herschel Walker gave a clear response to his son’s remarks: tweeting “I LOVE my son no matter what,” without answering any specific allegations.
The Daily Beast reported on Monday that a woman who asked not to be named claims that Walker urged her to have an ab*rtion and later paid for the procedure. The woman reportedly provided the facility with a $ 700 personal check from Walker, a “greeting” card from him, and a receipt from the ab*rtion provider as evidence of her claim.
Walker, who opposes ab*rtion without exceptions and called for a national ban, responded to this claim, calling it “another Democratic att*ck” and an “open lie”. He promised to file a lawsuit against The Daily Beast by Tuesday morning.
“I deny it in the sharpest words,” said Walker statement shared on Twitter. “This is another disgusting ax job done by a democratic activist disguised as a reporter who obsessively att*cked my family and tried to tear me down from the start of this race … It’s a disgusting gutter policy.”
“I don’t take it anymore,” he added. “AND [am] plans to sue The Daily Beast for this defamatory lie. It will be submitted tomorrow morning. “
The Daily Beast previously reported that Walker, who married twice, has a total of four children, all from different mothers, including two children whose existence he allegedly lied about, denying rumors to his campaign staff.
Polls suggest a race between Walker and incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock may be headed for finishing off the picture. The research site FiveThirtyEight rates the contest as “tucked in,” giving Warnock a 54% chance of beating Walker as of Monday night.
Newsweek contacted the Herschel Walker and Christian Walker campaign for additional comment.
