Katie Taylor believes her best in the ring is still ahead of her.
The undefeated world lightweight champion also brushed off speculation that she might retire if she wins her proposed super fight against Amanda Serrano next year.
Right now, the Bray fighter is focusing on the mandatory defense of her lightweight belt against Firoza Sharipova of Kazakhstan on December 11 in Liverpool.
Speaking from her training base in Vernon, Connecticut Taylor said she is well aware that she cannot continue boxing indefinitely.
“It’s a very limited career. I definitely don’t feel like I’m slowing down right now. I have a few years left and I have a lot of big fights left in me. But I just take one fight at a time.” “
She admitted that over the past year many people started talking about her giving up her fighting game. “I’m not thinking about retirement, but I think everyone else is. I feel so refreshed now and I have a lot of years to go.”
A recent Halloween night celebrated the 20th anniversary of Taylor’s first official fight as a 15-year-old at National Stadium.
Taylor never imagined that night that she would one day be rated by Ring Magazine as the best pound-for-pound female fighter on the planet and hold five world belts.
“Never in a million years did I think I would be in the position I am in now as a professional fighter. It is absolutely wonderful to see where women’s boxing is right now,” she said.
“It has been a golden time for women’s boxing in the last few years and it has been everything for me. I couldn’t have imagined that 15 years old would be where I am now. It’s been a dream.”
The always polite Taylor said that it was not for her to say that she was the goat (the greatest of all time) in women’s boxing.
“This is what other people have to say. I have no problem sitting back and letting other people say who they want to be the greatest,” she said.
He suggested that his education as a professional fighter was not over.
“You’re adapting to training; making changes to it from time to time and working on improvements that need to be done. There are things I’m working on in the fight, which will hopefully help in future matches.” I will be very important.”
“There’s no such thing as a perfect boxer. I have so many things to work on. It’s great to know that while I’m 19-0, people haven’t looked at my best yet
“I can’t wait to put on some great performances. I think next year, the final years of my career will be the best for me in the ring. I can’t wait for people to see that,” Taylor said.
