WILDWOOD, NJ (CBS) – Wildwood residents are furious on Sunday night about the chaos in the streets in which two people were killed and several others injured. Illegal accompanying shows took over Saturday night.

Residents are now demanding action.

An illegal car event in Wildwood killed two people and injured several others.

A series of car accidents on Saturday night leaves Wildwood residents and visitors in despair over the d*aths of people.

“You come here for fun and you die, and now they’re planning a funeral,” said Janice Jeffery, a Wildwood resident. “It’s just not right.”

“The accidents, the drinking, last night on Atlantic Avenue in Wildwood was devastating,” said Phillip Helmbold, a lifelong Wildwood resident.

Police say an unsanctioned car accident led to the d*aths of 18-year-old Lindsay Weakland and 34-year-old Timothy Ogden along with several other injured.

In the above video, Catherine Colby captured one of the chaotic scenes in Burk and Atlantic Avenue.

“It was like a car going 90mph on the road,” said Colby, a Wildwood resident. “It was a clean street. The car went over, they collided and everything went up in the air. ”

Officials say they arrested Gerald J. White, 37, after he fled the scene. Officers say White has been charged with two car d*aths, two car robbery cases, one skipping accident, one violation and one violation to protect public safety.

“The cops tried hard to control it, but the groups were too large and outnumbered the cops,” said one woman.

The board of commissioners released a statement saying they are monitoring the illegal H2Oi event throughout the weekend.

They say the city mayor spoke to Governor Phil Murphy to call for additional support to help the officers.

“I think the mayor owe us at least to consider coming here and explaining to us what happened in our community,” Helmbold said.

In between the devastation caused by the deadly catastrophe, resident Janice Jeffery undertook the creation of a small monument in honor of the missing.

“It’s just not right,” Jeffrey said. “She didn’t deserve to die because someone was careless. She just went and was killed. ”
