Lara Trump, who is married to the son of former President Donald Trump, Eric Trump, has faced criticism online over the video showing her son outside during the heavy rain caused by Hurricane Ian.

She was sharing video on Instagram Wednesday with the caption: “I thought we had a clean window, but we did some character building instead.”

In the video, you can see Trump’s son driving a children’s car on a residential street drenched in rain. He seems to be trying to shield his eyes from the heavy rain and is heard telling his mother, “I can’t do this.”

“No, you can do that. Let’s go, “he replies.

While Trump’s Instagram post suggested the catch in the rain was an accident, the video received severe criticism on Twitter Wednesday afternoon. One user, @mmpadellan, suggested that child protection services should be called to Trump for exposing her son to the storm and filming him. Others said Trump’s actions were “abusive.”

Lara and Eric Trump bought a house in Jupiter, Florida in the gated community of the Trump National Golf Club last year, Insider said, citing property records. A Category 4 hurricane recently landed in a state in preparation for its impact. Press association reported shortly after 3:15 PM ET, the storm hit southwestern Florida near Cayo Costa. Before he landed, a recent public recommendation from the National Hurricane Center released at 2 p.m. EST said that Ian had maximum sustained winds close to 155mph with more gusts, although it was expected to weaken after landing.

Videos on social media have already provided information on the severe floods caused by the storm in the state, while PowerOutage.us showed more than 681,000 were without electricity in Florida by 3 p.m. EST.

While Trump faced criticism over her son’s recording in the rain, others began defending her on social media.

“Lara Trump is a wonderful mother, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with getting caught in the rain while walking! The left is insane ” tweeted Brigitte Gabriel, conservative author and founder of a group that the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated as anti-Muslim.

Conservative author and commentator Nick Adams also wrote wa Post Lara Trump has been accused by Democrats of child abuse “for taking her son for a walk on a mini tractor and accidentally getting caught in the rain on the way back.”

Newsweek reached out to Trump on her website “The Right View” for comment.
