Malcolm Brogdon faced a similar but less scandalous coaching situation in Indiana.

First, Brad Stevens moved to the front office position. After that, Ime Udoka was suspended for a year due to multiple team violations. Now Joe Mazzulla, who temporarily runs the Celtics, is the franchise’s third head coach in three years.

As the team wants to move forward in preparation for the rapidly approaching 2022-23 season, they can benefit from the experience of newly acquired ranger Malcolm Brogdon.

Brogdon, who has been with the Indiana Pacers for three years, has had a different head coach each season. He knows what it’s like to start over with a new leader, just like the Celtics do now.

“I was a leader in Indiana,” said Brogdon. by The Athletic. “I was the guy the boys relied on as a vocal leader, but also set an example and led on the pitch. When the rotation came, I had to show that I had no particular influence on the court. I was able to continue to play at a high level and still lead my team.

The difference is that the two Indiana coaches (Nate McMillan and Nate Bjorkgren) who were fired during Brogdon’s stay had performance issues.

Udoka was not suspended due to Celtics court performance. He took Boston to the NBA Finals last year during his first season. Its suspension comes with a more scandalous situation that has not been fully explained to players, according to many players who spoke at Celtics Media Day on Monday.

Still, there are lessons to be learned from Brogdon’s experience. One is the Celtics’ focus on themselves rather than the circumstances surrounding Udoka’s suspension.

“Honestly, you weren’t really taught this, but focus on yourself,” said Brogdon. “Focus on being ready and prepared each day. This way, I went through all the trainers I had and learned all the new techniques. Keep an open mind, but make sure you are mentally and physically prepared to keep your skills sharp. It all starts with the work between the lines. “
