The man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly att*cking his girlfriend – beating her with a belt and attempting to rape and strangle her, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at around 1:30 am to a report of a physical altercation at a house on block 400 on 4th Avenue in an unregulated part of the county. They found a woman with neck injuries and eventually located the suspect in the area.
Both told MPs on the spot that they are in a dating relationship, authorities said.
The man, a 35-year-old Redwood City resident, allegedly used his hands to punch the woman in the head and beat her with a belt. At one point, authorities said he had attempted to rape the woman; he also climbed onto the victim in an attempt to strangle her.
The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted m*rder, attempted rape and domestic violence. The authorities did not provide information about the woman’s health.
