Members of the Black Texas Congress vowed to sue over the state’s redistribution plan.

A spokeswoman for Ms. Lee said Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green would challenge the reorganization of Texas congressional districts.

Under the proposed new boundaries of the Texas Republican-led legislature, Mrs. Lee’s home will be re-assigned to the congressional district represented by Mr. Green, who will pit two black lawmakers against each other. And one of them will have to pay for his job.

Ms Jackson and Mr Green said in a letter to legislators last month that the change was “radical” and “clearly an act of racial discrimination”, citing researchers who said Ms Jackson The proposed re-drawing of the current district would be less likely to select a black person.

State Republican leaders said racism was not a factor in creating new political boundaries.

The redistribution plan has been approved by the Texas Senate, and it was approved by a State House committee on Wednesday. It is expected to pass the House this weekend and get Republican Greg Abbott to sign it.

Texas ‘Reddit district could potentially bolster Democrats’ efforts to pass an election bill that would allow the federal government to redistribute maps they deem excessively biased.

According to Princeton University researchers, the proposed changes in Texas hand over two more Republicans to Congress, as the GOP seeks to win five seats in next year’s midterm elections to snatch control of the chamber.

The Princeton Gary Mendering Project, which last month rated Texas’ proposed congressional congressional F-grade as part of the party, said the 25-13 Republican gain in Congress does not reflect the state’s political views.

Republican Texas House Speaker Dad Filan was not immediately available for comment.

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer wrote to fellow senators Thursday that he plans to bring the Democrats’ election bill to a one-size-fits-all vote on Monday.

Mr Schmidt urged at least 10 Republican senators to vote to allow the debate to take place.

But Republicans, opposing the federal government’s views and rejecting state decisions, are expected to block the move with a file buster.

A compromise voting bill with West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin III will also overturn Republican-led voting laws that critics say make it difficult for minorities to vote.

The bill would formulate federal policies to create automatic voter registration and increase access to early and absentee voting.

The move would also limit states’ ability to remove people from voter lists and increase federal funding for electoral protection.
