Police said a Texas military recruiter shot his wife while she was questioned by NCIS investigators over allegations of abuse she had recently raised against her husband.

Violence developed on Thursday at home in the Balmoral community of Atascocita around 1.30pm, according to the Houston Chronicle. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the victim was talking to two Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents when the suspect entered and opened fire.

One NCIS operative was wounded as a result of the shelling and was hospitalized in good condition on Thursday evening. Harris said the second agent fled the incident uninjured.

The woman who was holding the baby when the shooting broke out was also hit and later presumed dead on the spot

Gonzalez told the first KHOU rescuers discovered unscathed the child is still holding the mother’s arms when they arrive at the mansion.

The suspect fled the scene of the shooting in a dark sedan, but the authorities managed to locate him on Mist Lane around 5pm. It was then that he got out of the vehicle, gun in hand, and opened fire on law enforcement officials.

According to Gonzalez, he was killed in another shootout. Authorities believe he tried to get into his mother’s house before his fatal confrontation with the authorities.

No one involved has been identified. An investigation into this is underway.
