The children were hospitalized with serious injuries. The SUV driver will be charged.

According to police, the woman and her two children were hit by an SUV while crossing a street in Peabody on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3pm at Lynn St. 106, near County Street. Peabody police said two girls, whose age have not been disclosed, were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

Police arrested driver Ovidia Lopez-Esteban from Lynn on the spot for driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Investigators said they were working with the district attorney’s office to raise these charges, although they had not identified new charges.

Police described it as a “serious car accident” which temporarily closed the road. “The road has been closed while the teams are working and an investigation is underway. Please avoid this area and look for an alternative route, ‘investigators wrote shortly after the incident.

WCVB reported the witness saw the driver trying to pass the bus on the right when he hit two girls at the intersection.

“When she was passing by the bus, the mother and the children would cross the street to pick up some laundry. She ended up pruning two little girls by beating them, ”said the witness.

The person who introduced himself as the father of the girls said on social media that everything would be fine with the kids.

Jason Todd commented on the actions of the Peabody Police Facebook post announcing an accident, saying, “I’m the dad of the girls. They will be fine. Thanks to the Peabody Police and those on site for their support. Thank you for all the fellowship, love and prayers. My pride at Peabody is strong today.

The Peabody Fire Department and state police responded to the accident scene with the help of Atlantic Ambulance. Police said they were still investigating the accident.
