Moving on: Kwan delivers again, Rogers twins together

A look at what’s happening around today’s big companies:

notable rookie

Guardian newcomer Steven Kwan has quickly become the biggest story in baseball after a sensational start to the season-opening series in Kansas City.

The 24-year-old rookie is the first player in major league history to reach base at least three times in each of his first four matches. Kwan hit a base-loaded triple and walked twice on Monday in a 10-7 win over the Royals.

Kwan, who started his first day, is 9 for 13 at plate and has reached base in 15 of 19 plate appearances. This is the most times a player has reached safely in his first four matches since 1901.

“Very well,” said Quan in his typical sane way. “Very real.”

Kwan was Cleveland’s fifth-round draft pick in 2018. He’s a contact hitter—he’s swing 26 times so far this season and gets a piece of the ball each time, according to StatCast.

Kwan had the lowest swing-and-miss rate in the minors last year at 2.6% among players with at least 300 plate appearances.

Cleveland opens a series in Cincinnati, with Tyler Mahle starting for the Reds. He took the World Series champion Braves to victory on day one in Atlanta for no runs in five innings.

Shane Bieber advocates for the Guardians. On his debut, he allowed an earned run in 4 2/3 innings at Kansas City.

see double

Giants reliever Tyler Rogers and his twin brother, Padres reliever Taylor Rogers, spent minutes with big grins behind the batting cage on Monday afternoon as their teams prepared for a three-match series in San Francisco.

Afterwards, they walked to home plate and exchanged lineup cards for their managers before being photographed with the umpire crew.

What fun for these two now playing in the same division at rival clubs.

“Maybe if you put them in the same uniform you can’t tell them apart,” said Padres manager Bob Melvin. “I know it is a special day for the two of them to be able to be on the field together. There are twins and then there are twins, and it’s hard to separate. ,

Both heaved a sigh of relief on Monday night and also played a key role in the outcome. Taylor Rogers earned his third save and Tyler lost in a 4–2 victory over the Giants of San Diego.

U Dervish begins for the Padres on Tuesday night. At the start of his season in Arizona last week, he made no-hitter progress but was pulled after the sixth inning after throwing 92 pitches.

double debut

Tampa Bay right-hander Tommy Romero and Oakland right-hander Adam Aller will both make their major league debuts when pitching against each other at Tropicana Field.

This will be the 28th time since 1901 that baseball reference data are available that two starting pitchers are making their major league debut in the same game.

Neither Athletics nor Ray have been involved in this type of sport.

The most recent incidents occurred in 2020 when Washington’s Will Crowe faced Miami’s Sixto Sanchez at National Park on August 22, and Detroit’s Casey Miz and White Sox’s Dan Dunning met on August 19 in Chicago.

welcome back

Martin Perez spent his first seven big league seasons with the Texas Rangers. Leftists have returned after three years.

Perez made his return to the mound for the Rangers to wrap up a two-game set against Colorado, with right-hander Chad Kuhl pitching with the Rockies for the first time.

Texas initially signed Perez as a 16-year-old international free agent based out of Venezuela in July 2007, and he made his big league debut in 2012. After leading 43-49 in 141 games in seven years with the Rangers, Perez went to Minnesota. in free agency for the 2019 season and then pitched for Boston over the past two years.

Kuhl signed as a free agent last month after pitching in 100 games (84 starts) for Pittsburgh in his first five big league seasons. He was 5-7 with 4.82 ERA in 28 games (14 starts) for the Pirates last year.
