Ohtani homers early, Angels rally late to beat Rangers 9-7

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Shohei Ohtani hit the opening three-run homer, and Luis Rengifo and David Fletcher scored two each during the eighth inning of a five-run eight that put the Texas Rangers 9-. Saturday night 7.

Marcus Semien and Mabrice Viloria made it home for Rangers, who won the first two games of the series.

Ohtani launched his 22nd homer in the third, but the Angels trailed 7-4 to reach eighth. Fletcher, who entered third after a Phil Gosselin picker, lined up a two-run double over the wall of the left field and pulled one out to bring Los Angeles within 7-6.

After the dismissal of pinch-hitter Kurt Suzuki, Ohtani went deliberately and Taylor Ward walked past Brett Martin (0-7). Fletcher tied it on 7 when he scored on a wild pitch, and Rengifo followed with a line drive into the right-center gap to put the Angels on top.

Max Stacy added two hits and an RBI for the Angels. Toukie Toussaint (1-0), who came in for starter Chase Silseth in fifth, conceded two runs in four innings to win his Helos debut.

Raisel Iglesias dropped a single off Semien and walked past Jonah Heim to field Nathaniel Lowe and Adolis Garcia for his 16th save and on a long flight to center for the first time since June 29 left.

Semien hit a three-run shot off Silseth (1-4) in the fourth to give Rangers a 5-3 lead. Viloria had a two-run drive in the center on a sinker by Toussaint to make it 7-4 in the strike zone.

Rangers took a 2–0 lead in the third RBI singles by Lowe and Garcia before the Angels advanced into the home half. Gosselin was beaned on a sinker from Glen Otto, and Andrew Velazquez had a bunt single before Ohtani reversed Otto’s 88 mph change in the elevated bleachers in center field.

Silseth recalled Double-A Rocket City for his third stint with the Angels this season, allowing five runs and five hits with five strikes. All four of his walks were converted into runs by the Angels.

Otto played five innings and conceded four runs for four hits and scored five runs. The rookie right-hander is 0-5 in his last seven matches and has not won since June 4.
