NEWARK — One man has died and another seriously injured after a weekend knife incident that police are investigating as a homicide, authorities said.
In statement On Sunday afternoon, police said officers responded just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting along the 37000 block of Oak Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man unconscious with what appeared to be stab wounds. Despite lifesaving measures taken by rescuers, the man died at the scene. The man’s identity has been withheld until the nearest relative is notified by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office of the Coroner.
Officers also found a 42-year-old man from Newark at the scene. This man was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries and was later listed as stable.
The police did not share the nature of any relationship between him and the deceased man. A city spokesman did not immediately respond to calls requesting more information about the incident.
