“I cannot imagine a better place to award the Earthshot award in its second year of award than the birthplace of President John F. Kennedy, from which we draw so much inspiration.”

Prince William confirmed on Wednesday that he and his wife, Princess Kate, were coming to Boston in December for the Earthshot 2022 Awards.

Earthshot Award is a million-dollar investment donated by the William and Kate Foundation to five environmentalists so that they can continue their work. The initiative was launched in 2020 by two British royalty and biologist David Attenborough, and the first awards were given out last year.

William said in video address at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York, which he and Kate wished they could attend due to the recent d*ath of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, but are looking forward to arriving in Boston, which is hosting the awards, in December.

“In this time of sadness, I am greatly encouraged by your continued enthusiasm, optimism and commitment to the Earthshot Award and what we are trying to achieve,” he said.

“Environmental protection was a matter dear to my grandmother’s heart, and I know she would be delighted to hear about this event and the support you are giving to our Earthshot finalists.”

During the speech, William nodded to Boston, citing one of President John F. Kennedy’s most famous speeches.

“Together in this room are the people and organizations that will help us accomplish Earthshot’s mission: repair, restore and rejuvenate our planet in this decade,” he said.

‚ÄúThis mission is not easy. As President John F. Kennedy said when he called on the United States of America to unite in sending man to the moon, “We choose these things not because they are easy, but because they are difficult.”

The name Earthshot was inspired by the famous “Lunar shot“speech. William said he hoped to recreate the innovation that put man on the moon in 1969, but this time to solve environmental problems.”

“I cannot imagine a better place to award the Earthshot award in its second year than the birthplace of President John F. Kennedy, from which we have drawn so much inspiration,” said William.

Prince William noted that he was pleased that Kennedy’s daughter, Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, was present at Wednesday’s summit, where attendees learned about the efforts of last year’s Earthshot winners.

William said Earthshot finalists will be announced in the coming weeks.
