Remains were found in the “open desert” of the Yuka Valley. The sheriff’s press release said it could take weeks to identify and determine the cause of death.

Cho, 30, of New Jersey, went missing on June 28 from a Yuka Valley home where she was staying with friends.

Friends, including her ex-boyfriend, apparently reported her missing about three hours after she left home. She said she was “upset” and had left her personal belongings. He was last seen wearing a T-shirt and shorts.

Yuka Valley is about 10 miles west of the town of Joshua Tree.

As the sheriff’s department and volunteers surrounded the area, so did Cho’s friends.
