Aston Villa’s new head coach Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move to Stuttgart left-back Borna Sousa.
The Croatian will be worth around £26 million and is considered one of Stuttgart’s prized possessions.
Under contract until 2025, the 23-year-old registered 10 assists in 26 Bundesliga matches last season.
He has scored four goals in 14 games in this period and scored an assist against Greater Firth on the opening day of the 2021–22 campaign.
“I am sure he will be a great player for Villa,” he added Football Insider,
“An assist every four games is a really good record for a full-back.
“I don’t claim to know much about him but I’m sure he must have been on Steven Gerrard’s radar at Rangers but that transfer fee was probably out of reach there.
“Now that he’s at the villa, he can probably think of bringing her in for that kind of money – because he’s definitely someone Gerard likes.”
Sosa has taken up the Bundesliga well since signing from Dinamo Zagreb in 2018 and has been compared to England’s legendary set-piece specialist David Beckham.
Signing left-back makes sense for Villa, who has been linked with Gerrard’s old side Rangers’ Borna Barisic, with Matt Targett being the club’s only real out-and-out option.
ashley young The left can fill in, but Villa will likely look to sign someone who can rival Target in the long term.
Sosa will see fit the bill and the five-cap Croatia international is likely to accept the bid due to its financial situation, in addition to the five-cap Croatia international potentially jumping at the chance to move to the Premier League.
