According to a report by Chris Davidson, the Australian-born professional surfer who was once one of the sport’s best players died the weekend after allegedly hitting a bar.

Another man is accused of hitting 45-year-old Davidson whose head hit the ground after he suffered a punch in the face late Saturday at South West Rocks, TMZ reported.

Davidson was unconscious when authorities arrived and died after being taken to the hospital, according to TMZ.

The suspect, who officials said was 42 years old, was reportedly arrested and charged with assault and d*ath.

Davidson reached the 14th place in the world surfing rankings in 2010 and often competed with 11-time US surf champion Kelly Slater, who paid tribute to Davidson’s d*ath.

“I’ve had a lot of good battles with this guy,” Slater wrote in a statement, according to TMZ. “One of the most naturally gifted surfers I’ve ever known.”

South West Rocks is located along Australia’s east coast, approximately 280 miles north of Sydney.
