Tellez hits 2 HRs against former team, Brewers top Jays 10-3

Milwaukee (AP) — Rowdy Tellez hit a pair of two-run homers against his former team, helping the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-3 on Sunday.

Milwaukee took two out of three in the series between teams meeting for the first time since 2017.

Tellez, who was traded to the Brewers from Toronto last July, made the home in the first innings. He then joined another for his 13th home run.

Milwaukee scored five times in the second. Tyrone Taylor went ahead with a double, Jess Peterson then reached a perfectly executed drag bunt and Jonathan Davis had an infield single that brought in a run.

After Christian Yelich had an RBI grounder, Tellez left Jose Berios (5-4) again, driving a pitch to the right-hand wall. The drive gave the Brewers an 8–3 lead as a crowd of over 35,000 stood up and chanted Tellez’s name.

Tellez has had two multi-homer games this season and seven in his career.

Jandel Gustav (1-0) gave Chi Chi Gonzalez relief after playing two goalless innings to win. Gonzalez and four Milwaukee relievers made Toronto scoreless after the first inning.

Alejandro Kirk first hit a three-run homer in Toronto. A run-scoring double by Omar Narvez later in the innings also pulled Milwaukee away, after Tellez homed in the bottom half.

Gonzalez made his second start for the Brewers, conceding four hits and three runs in four innings.

Berios allowed eight hits and a season-high eight runs in 2 2/3 innings. He conceded six runs in four innings in his previous debut against the Chicago White Sox on June 20.
