DETROIT (AP) — The Buffalo Bills crashed a Thanksgiving party in Detroit with their second win in five days at Ford Field.

Tyler Bass scored the deciding goal from 45 yards with 2 seconds left after conceding an extra point late in the fourth quarter to lift Buffalo to a 28-25 win over Detroit on Thursday.

“It was deja vu-ish,” said Josh Allen, who set up the game-winning shot, starting the action with a 36-yard pass to Stefon Diggs and running for 12 yards twice. Allen led the Bills with 78 rushing yards.

The Bills returned to Motor City after the NFL moved its previous home game to Cleveland as a winter storm dropped several feet of snow in Western New York.

Buffalo became the third NFL team to play two games in five or fewer days away at the same stadium, and the first to win both.

And the Bills tied Detroit’s number of wins this season at their indoor stadium.

Buffalo (8-3) won two in a row – after losing two in a row – and advanced half a game ahead of Miami in the AFC East.

After Bass landed the winning kick, Allen and Diggs embraced on the touchline.

“Let’s get back to the fun,” recalled Diggs, who told Allen after eight catches for 77 yards and a point. “We’ve strayed a bit from that”

Allen green-lighted a 5-yard pass to Diggs with 2:40 left, but Bass missed the extra point and made it 25–22 after the kicker tied his and franchise record with six field goals in an eight-point win over the Browns on Sunday.

Allen had passing and a quick touchdown in the first half, finishing 24 of 42 for 253 yards, more than made up for with his 11th interception of the season. He scored 162 touchdowns, surpassing only Hall of Famer Dan Marino, who scored a total of 171 touchdowns by an NFL player in his first five seasons.

The Lions traded fourth and 1 from midfield from the 7-yard inning of Amon-Ra St. Brown to equalize Michael Badgley’s 51-yard field goal with 23 seconds left. Badgley missed a field goal from 29 yards late in the third period, and Jared Goff took the sack for safety in the same quarter, and these mistakes proved costly.

Detroit (4-7) missed a chance to win four games in a row for the first time since 2016 and lost a sixth straight game on Thanksgiving.

“I told them this one should sting,” said trainer Dan Campbell. “We had a chance to win and we didn’t, but I don’t think it was a step backwards. I’m frustrated, but we’re getting better. “

KEY PLAYER

Buffalo’s defensive tackle Ed Oliver forced and recovered a fumble in the first half, leading Allen to a tiebreaker, a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Oliver also released Goff for safety, three games after Allen threw an interception on Detroit 4 to give the Bills a 19-14 lead early in the third quarter.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT

The Lions promoted linebacker James Houston from the practice team, and he became the first player in franchise history to have more than one sack in his NFL debut.

CODE RED

Allen’s steal in the third quarter was Buffalo’s sixth turn in the red zone, surpassing the total he had in the previous three seasons.

injuries

Bills: Edge rusher Von Miller (right knee) and LT Dion Dawkins (knee) both missed the game with injuries, with coach Sean McDermott saying there was no update on their status.

Sights: DE Julian Okwara (elbow) was injured during the match and Campbell said CB Jerry Jacobs left the pitch after feeling dizzy.

IN THE NEXT

Bills: Play New England on Thursday night.

Sights: Play Jacksonville at home on December 4.
