ANTIOCH – Does your child need to get outside more, to start socializing more, not to distance themselves? Scouting may be the answer.
The Boy Scout Troop 153 will host an open house from 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday at Church on the Rock for those looking to learn about all the fun activities that Scouts are involved in.
The branch offers an alternative to video games and teaches skills useful in real life. Some of the activities include backpacking, camping, outdoor cooking, supervised archery, and rifle shooting. Water sports include canoeing, rowing, rafting and snorkeling. In winter, members of the squad can enjoy camping in the snow, snowboarding, skiing and snowmobiling, while summer activities include cycling, mountain biking, spelunking, rock climbing and zip-lining.
Scouts also learn life skills and potential career skills through a variety of Merit Badges, while Leader emphasizes character development, leadership skills, and community engagement, and learns knot tying, fire safety, first aid, and emergency preparedness.
