The Queen ‘much better’ and will host Christmas at Sandringham

Her Majesty, 95, assured her she is feeling “much better” and is “looking forward” to the traditional celebration at her Norfolk estate, her first since her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, died in April.

Concerns about the Queen’s health have risen in recent weeks as she withdrew from major events.

However, King is resting under doctors’ orders at Windsor Castle, and last month spent a night in hospital for an unconfirmed condition.

It is understood the Queen will travel to Sandringham on or around Friday, December 17.

Royal sources said it was likely she would take a 50-minute helicopter journey from Windsor, but suggested that the traditional journey by train from London to King’s Lynn was also possible.

Their guests will include the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children.

His youngest son the Earl of Wessex, his wife Sophie and their two children have also confirmed their presence.

Princess Anne and her children Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall are also expected to attend.

The invitation has been extended to Princess Beatrice, her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi and their newborn daughter Sienna, as well as Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and their baby son August.

Royal sources suggested the Duke of Scandal-hit York was “obviously” invited as well, but “highly unlikely” to fly to California with their two children despite their invitation to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Was.

A source said: “The Queen has told everyone that she is feeling better as of late and is very much looking forward to welcoming them over for Christmas.

“Like many other families, this will be the first time Her Majesty can gather with her extended family after being separated for so long due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
