Prosecutor Nick Stroble said Edwards returned at 10.40 p.m. and began yelling at Miller. She continued: “She tried to take her son away from her and he slapped her on the right side of her face with an open hand before punching him in the face with a fist. Edwards then left the property with her child, and Ms. Miller called the police who arrived shortly after and arrested the defendant when she returned.

Ms Miller suffered injuries to her face, eye socket and mouth as well as bruises, swelling and cuts.

In a victim’s personal statement read to the court, she said: “It has affected my daily life to a great extent. I feel unsafe and have CCTV cameras installed in my property. The incident left me scared, upset and angry. felt. I honestly thought [he] was going to kill me that night.”

The court also heard that Ms. Miller had gone home, so the defendant would no longer know where she lived.

Edwards of Lindaf Way pleaded guilty to assault on the occasion of actual bodily harm. Mr Stroble said the defendant’s sentence included domestic attacks on previous partners, the last of which occurred in 2011.

In mitigation, Stephen Thomas said that his client was a hardworking young man who worked multiple jobs and was concerned about the effect on the mother of his other children if he was sent to prison. He also told the court that the defendant’s issues stemmed from alcoholism.

Sentencing, Judge Hugh Rees said: “It was a vicious assault that consisted of repeatedly punching the victim in the face, stomping on her, trying to strangle her, putting her hands in her mouth and spitting on her.” was involved. Edwards was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and was suspended for two years. They were also ordered to complete an alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement for 120 days, complete unpaid work for 180 hours, and complete 31 days of the Building Better Relationship Program and a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also ordered to be banned for five years.
