Crockett – Two men were rushed to trauma centers by medical helicopter after a lone collision on Sunday just off Interstate 80, authorities said.

Shortly after 5:10 pm, California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of an incident on the eastern lanes of I-80 at the Pomona Street exit.

While the officers were on the way, they learned that the driver of the vehicle had got stuck with his foot near the accelerator pedal, which led to a collision.

Officers arrived to find two unconscious men in a Honda sedan with severe frontal damage and worked with the Crockett Carquinez firefighters to safely remove the men.

The men were then picked up at San Pablo Avenue and Merchant Avenue, where a REACH medical helicopter flew over to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

According to a fire brigade’s social media post, the men were initially listed in critical condition.
