The second annual Earthshot award ceremony will be held in Boston on December 2.

Prince William of Britain is coming to Boston next month for a second ceremony Earthshot Awarda global series of environmental awards donated by the royal family to recognize groundbreaking solutions to repair the planet.

It has been confirmed that the ceremony will take place in Boston this summer, but new details have been announced this week. It will be held on December 2 at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway, according to The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. The organization announced on Thursday the formation of a committee to host the awards ceremony in 2022.

Governor Charlie Baker, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, US Presidential Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Senator Ed Markey, Massachusetts Senate Speaker Karen Spilka, and Massachusetts House President Ronald Mariano will all be on the committee.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on December 5 on PBS.org, the PBS app and PBS YouTube channel, and on The Earthshot Prize YouTube channel, according to Related press. The ceremony will be broadcast on PBS stations on December 14.

The award is inspired by John F. Kennedy’s iconic 1962 speech “Moonshot”, which called on Americans to commit to the goal of reaching the moon by the end of the decade. The Earthshot Award aims to discover and implement on a scale remarkable environmental solutions.

In total, according to the foundation, five prizes will be awarded in these categories: protecting and restoring nature, cleaning the air, reviving the oceans, building a world without waste, and climate repair. Fifteen finalists will be selected first. Each of the five winners will receive £ 1 million.

“The Earthshot Award is a historic opportunity to re-engage with the spirit of innovation and collaboration that has long made Boston a leader in addressing some of our most pressing environmental challenges here and around the world,” Wu said in a statement. “I am inspired that so many Boston leaders will join us to celebrate the Earthshot Award and commit to the ambitious goal we all share to build a healthy and bright future for generations to come.”

Wu and her colleagues on the host committee will work on “community involvement in the region” in the award, according to the foundation, and will promote “Boston’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development”.

Committee members will serve as advisers in the week leading up to the ceremony and will convene “a live exploration of the important environmental issues facing Boston and the US.” have demonstrated commitment to environmental protection.
