Why do Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton love Victoria Beckham’s fashion line?

Victoria Beckham and the Spice Girls called “Girl Power!” during the 1990s. Enthused a generation of young women with the motto of Bold and Brave. And it looks like two women who have taken that motto to heart are royal sister-in-law Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

Both royal ladies have chosen to use their public forums to advocate for women’s rights and equal opportunities, and both women also have links to Beckham herself – she was a guest at their weddings.

As Victoria and David Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn, walks down the aisle, newsweek Looks at how Meghan and Kate decorate their wardrobes with pieces from the Beckham brand, and whether the label appeals to both.

a sophisticated blend of aesthetics

In the years since her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has shown that she has a distinctive and effortless style that she has adapted to reflect her personal and professional growth.

Her personal aesthetic is based in neutral tones with relaxed tailoring and updated classic silhouettes.

Kate Middleton has earned a reputation for embracing a more conservative, structured style with fun and notable bursts of color. There’s a brand that suits women who sit between Meghan’s relaxed yet simultaneously chic and Kate’s consciously proper aesthetic.

Establishing a Fashion Powerhouse

The origins of Beckham’s own fashion label began with an interest in design that began in her childhood. Even in her 20s, as a member of the worldwide phenomenon pop-group Spice Girls, Beckham was nicknamed “Posh Spice”, known for her ultra-cool style and demeanor. .

In the early 2000s, Beckham began to model for friends in the fashion industry, such as Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli, before establishing her own label in 2008.

Although Beckham’s name brought the brand instant recognition on the world stage, its founders were reluctant to expand their potential too soon, and instead focused on creating smaller collections – learning from mistakes along the way.

The Victoria Beckham fashion label has gone from strength to strength in 2022. It has surpassed the novelty of being an ex-pop-star’s passion project and today has become one of the top fashion brands working with clients across the globe.

The brand itself is celebrated for its “voice for modern minimalism, its versatility, strong sense of sophistication, and effortless approach to wardrobe for women in every part of their lives.”

It’s this aesthetic vision, walking the line between minimalism and fashion, that appeals to both Meghan and Kate’s established styles.

Although the exact extent of Kate’s wardrobe is not known, Victoria Beckham has one piece that she seems to be backing again and again. This accessory strongly adheres to the brand’s minimalist aesthetic and is called the Quincy Bag.

This tote style handle bag in white leather occupies the bulk of Kate’s favorite handbag—the Duchess is generally known for her love of clutch bags or small fashion bags.

Kate has worn this bag several times, most notably at Wimbledon in 2016 and 2017. She also wore the bag to a charity polo match in 2018, where she and her children watched Prince William play.

Meghan is the sister-in-law who is a more typical fan of Beckham’s fashion and has worn key pieces from the brand’s collection during her wedding.

It looks like the Beckhams are also a fan of Meghan, the famously different designer said in an interview glamour magazine that she praised Meghan’s speech at the British Fashion Awards in 2018.

She explained: “I loved what Meghan Markle said at the Fashion Awards. It used to be good to be cruel, and now it’s good to be kind. Kindness has always been at the core of girl power.”

There are many Victoria Beckham looks in Meghan’s wardrobe, the most notable of which is the dress the Duchess wore to the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in 2019.

The outfit included a chic minimalist coat overtop, a cream midi dress with printed chain link detailing. The overall effect of the dress garnered praise from the fashion press and users on social media.

Another show of Meghan rocking Victoria Beckham outfits has been immortalized in a series of iconic photos taken of the Duchess with her husband at an event in London.

Since stepping down as a full-time working member of the royal family, Meghan has worn a collection of neutral tone Victoria Beckham blouses, which seem to have been carefully chosen to compliment the tone of royal interiors.

Since its launch in 2008, the Victoria Beckham brand has gone from strength to strength, growing into a massive operation that, although may not always be profitable, with its stated goals of providing women with versatile and sophisticated wardrobe staples. Attracts a minimalist aesthetic.

Meghan and Kate have developed their own personal style reactions to the royal spotlight, including the move to marry their princes—but never lose the all-important element of girl power.
