Xavier University of Louisiana will host an all-star “Gaila” this month as part of its inaugural Pride Week in New Orleans.
According to a school press release, Xavier, the country’s only historically Black Roman Catholic university, will perform Drag Queens Big Fredia, Tank and Da Bangas in front of a crowd of 275 in the ballroom.
“This is a celebration of the many contributions of LGBTQ + workers and allies on campus and in the New Orleans community at large,” Xavier’s involvement and social justice officer, Glenn Coston, said in a statement.
Pride Week celebrations begin on Friday and end on Wednesday, October 20.
Catholic education opposes gay marriage and advocates outrage for homosexuals, but Xavier’s Pride Week continues to host gay culture events in college-run colleges. ۔
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Liberties, said in a September 27 statement that external funding for LGBTQ + events puts pressure on Catholic colleges and universities to adhere to secular values in sexual ethics.
“The federal government has been sued for allowing Orthodox religious schools to receive federal funding, schools that believe that marriage is a union of a man and a woman, not of the same sex. Colleges have been sued for refusing to allow biological men to live in women’s dormitories.
